I think nobody has experience with rear entertainment so far.
Even BMW is offering it soon, somewhen after September 2004, but not yet.

But having the rear entertainment package from BMW would mean (AFAIK) that the passengers in the rear can watch TV while the car is in motion. And I don't think there will be a second tuner. I am pretty sure it is possible, but I can't tell you...

Do you have the screens allready ?

If you have screens, why don't you get the T-5500 module ?!

I believe the rear entertainment package requires a different center console including its backside where headset plugs are located. I am not positive, but there may be a separate DVD player for this in trunk (allowing use of NAV on iDrive screen). In any case, play functions should be menu driven on iDrive, but you will be unable to view the DVD on iDrive screen.

The T-5500 will "override" the idrive screen. So, this tuner uses the complete screen for TV or other source connected to it, even while the car is in motion.

It uses the idrive screen, but you don't have access to the idrive screen anymore until you switch the T-5500 off.

That's how I understand it.

It's not FULLY integrated into idrive.
It just uses the screen and overrides the other infos.
No split screen, nothing else...

But if you install a screen for the T-5500 to use it as a rear entertainment package... That might work...

I'm pretty sure you can only use one screen, so if you would connect two more, they will get the same picture.
The system with the two screens for the rear is BMW's "soon to come" rear entertainment package. This will allow using every screen itself, independent, to watch DVD, TV or play PS2, etc.... A system like that is way more expensive!

thanks, with the rear screens i will be able to change the channel.

e.g. 1-5 will be tv channels, 6 will be the dvd player and 7 could be the PS2.

so could i one screen put it on channel 3 to watch some tv and on the other screen to channel 7 to play PS2?

is that possible?

other question, how do i turn the module off since it ill be hidden somewhere?

also will it work in the UK and is it compatible with any rear screens?

Since I just know this from their website (I'm waiting on a module what allows using of BMW's TV tuner without overriding the screen), I think it might be better if you send an email to them:

Click here for their contact page.

The last time I asked them something they answered real quick (in about one hour !).

Also... The module what has it's own TV tuner is the T5500, the T-5000 uses the BMW TV tuner.
