My Ride: 2005 525i: Mystic Blue, Auburn Dakota leather Premium and Winter Package, Xenons
I just figured out one of the features that i was not aware of...thought i might share it to those that did not know about it....My friend has the 645 and was sharing how nice it is not really having to turn the ignition all the way...so i was lost until i tried it for myself...so you really dont need to turn the key all the way back...just give it a tap back and magic...i knew other manufacters did this although not aware of BMW doing it ....its the little things that make the whole...
That feature is on my car with steptronic (and also was on my '00 740i). It's weird starting a car without it, after driving one with it for a while--the first time you turn the key on the car without it, it doesn't start!

I read my owner's manual, and I think I have figured out what it is. Never notice it cause I normally release as soon as I hit key position 3 (as in the manual).
On my 6er u step on brake and while key is in position two, simply turn and release key. Engine will crank and start on its own.

Its called 'comfort start' and all it really means is you don't have to hold the key in position 3 for the engine to crank until it starts. Just flip it to position 3 and release, the car will then crank itself for as long as it needs to until it starts. Most of the time you wouldn't even notice the facility because the car will start instantaneously in any case, its only on particularly cold days etc that you may notice it.
