Not sure of how the e60 works just yet (my 530xi is currently in production), however my fiance's Audi A4 has the same 3-click feature. It took me some time to get the hang of it and thought it was annoying at first...its not so bad now though.
You know, if we're going to bother modifying I-Drive to allow selecting the 'number of blinks', maybe we should go a little further.? I'm thinking that on US cars a "Florida Retiree" option might be useful.? If selected the right turn blinker would be permanently on.?
Yeah, the problem is they don't turn them off though. The i-drive should not allow them to turn into the fast lane or drive in I-95 or especially the ternpike.

So you can keep yours set to three.? I don't want more blinks so I can "ask permission" but sometimes, especially on the highway, I feel that three isn't enough.?
It takes at least two blinks just to wake up some of the drivers on US highways!

Without getting too argumentative, I don't change lanes until I have sufficient room for the person behind me to be pretty much blind without it making a difference.
Also Rudy, I was born and raised in the 'burgh and my parents are still there. As you are no doubt aware, Allegheny County has the highest number of retired persons in the US during the summer - then it's a county in Florida when it gets cold - so I'd agree that you might need to exercise more caution with respect to other motorists.
What's worse (with both groups) is changing lanes without any warning...and making a right turn from the left lane...

I think the biggest problem is that the detents/resistance points are far to soft. I frequently find myself with a permanently flashing signal when I intended a triple. Id like to see them twice as hard.

As explained above, the trick to canceling it on the E60 is to move the lever in the SAME direction as the indicator is blinking -- in other words, the opposite of what everyone is used to.
Once you get used to this new way, it actually makes more sense and works fine.

Maybe they can switch the gas pedal and brake pedal too. Put the gas pedal in the middle... Then we will be original....
