Turn lights off -> trunk opens.

For a few days, about 75% of the time I turned off the car I noticed my truck would open. I started trouble shooting and realized that it’s related to the head lamps. Even if the car is off, if I turned the lights on and then off (key or no key in the ignition) the trunk would open. The only wild card is if the car is in drive and I do this, the trunk does not open. It appears to only happen when the car is in park.
**edit** it happens in drive and reverse but the trunk will only open once the car comes to a stop.

occasionally the trunk will also not close on the first try and usually takes 2 or three attempts.

I checked out the wiring harness by the battery and nothing looked too bad, but have yet to pull the trunk lid panel. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

What has changed? Did you recently acquire this car? Have you done any electronic work to it? Has it been serviced lately? Any events like an accident?

No to everything but service. PCV valve was done a few weeks ago but I can’t imagine that’s related. She’s at 140k miles and some other gremlins have been popping up.
Im thinking there’s a short / broken wire in the harness that goes up the hinge.

Yep, wires in harness going up the hinge of trunk would be my guess.

Took a look at the wiring harness in the trunk and they all looked like garbage. Fixed them up and the issue appears to have been resolved.
