Ok, so the sound is noticeable from gears 1 to 2, but after that its not noticeable?
Do you guys think BMW intentionally silenced the sound?

not intentionally silenced. just not designed to be loud. 98% of people that buy a 5 series are buying it for looks/status/luxury. few us of buy it for performance/heritage

I agree, but most of the people that buy for status, luxury would probably get the 528i not the twin turbo... Or at least thats how I feel.
I know a few colleagues who bought the 528 because they didn't care for the twin turbo or having 300+ HP.

dont know if i entirely agree with that logic. when i test drove the IS250 compared to the IS350, i was afraid i would get run off the road trying to accelerate on the highway. some people just want the extra power for whatever reason. i couldnt imagine driving a 528 with 4 people in the car. i would feel like i am in a ford taurus.

so, a real estate agent might be a candidate for a vehicle with more power.

i saw an old man driving a lexus GS430. why didnt he just get the GS350?

If you have your car parked, and then roll down the windows and rev it, can you hear it then? Because I have yet to hear it when I drive with the windows down. I can understand if I need to rev higher in order to hear it, since I really don't rev it too high when driving in my neighborhood.

i could be wrong but i dont believe the turbo is technically engaged if the car is in "P" or neutral..... the "whine" is literally made when the boost is released and this cold pressure is the result of the spooling sound..... hope u understand what i mean?!!?!? so the harder u run the car the more pressure is engaged hence u hear the "whine" louder!! again, im no rocket scientist but it makes sense, no??
