I am thinking of getting either a 530d M Sport or a 535d M Sport. Can anyone recommend a good dealer ? (UK only)...

Thanks so much in advance ?

535d is a bit heavier and has a lot worse urban consumption. Remapped 530d can offer you the same hp if you care about it. If I could choose I would opt for more toys and 530d which is perfectly OK as a daily driver. However it seems like 535d holds its resale value better.

Please post more details to help us help you

Important question:
Do you like lots of torque at any RPM from idle to max? --> Go 535d
Or is it OK for you if the car behaves like a "classical" turbo diesel, that is lots of torque kicking in at 1500...2000 RPM? --> Go 530d

It's really a matter of personal preference, some people hate "turbo lags" and some love them.
Of course the 535d is faster but for normal driving a 530d should be plenty already.

And if you want a manual, the choice is easy: Only 530d is possible then.

Sorry Hondik but that is absolutely wrong! My 535d gives me a better fuel consuption than 2 identical specs 530d M Sports. Me and my mates are always comparing this (I have a 535d and they both have 530d's) no matter where we take our cars together i always end up with a better mpg figure than them - must have something to do with their engines trying to hard to keep up with mine

Don't buy either of them.Get an LCI 525D instead.

In real world driving I bet you won't notice any difference in performance. You will however save yourself a few grand buying one, and you will get much better mpg and the residuals will be better.

If you cant stretch to an LCI 525D then ignore the above and get a 530D !

I drove both 530d and 525d (both LCI), and it was a no brainer - 525d Auto. True the 530d has more power, but as stated the difference is not that great in real world driving. The 525d has plenty enough grunt to keep most cars behind...!!! And it's cheapr to insure. Someone mentioned to me that you can remap a 525d and effectively get the same performance as a 530d, and save ?000's in the process...

Ultimately only you can decide! Go driv them all - and as for dealrs - Sytner are pretty good IF you get the right sales man.

You can remap a 520d and make it a 525d, you can remap a 525d and make it a 530d, you can remap a 535d and make it an M5 - Sounds stupid doesn't it - go figure!

I would go for the 535D. Thats what I decided to do when I changed my E61 525D, and I havn't regreted it once.

At the moment I am only 1 mpg down on my 2004 525D, I am getting about 30 mpg on my 535D.

Although the 525D is quick for a diesel, the 535D is phenominal to drive. I've had the car 3 Months now, as as soon as I press the accelerator, a huge smile appears on my face .

If you like driving, overtaking is a breeze, and no lag to worry about. It behaves like a kitten in town, and is so smooth when driving moderately on the open road, but squeeze that accelerator a bit harder, and it takes off like a sprinter on steroids. Great fun and a fantastic drive.

Personally I went for the 530d there was no point in having the 525d as it has all the running costs of the 530d but with less power, the fuel economy is only worse on the 530d if you put your foot down and use the extra power. The thing that put me off the 535d was costs of repairs if something went wrong with it, the single turbo deisels are going to cost enough and the 535d is just way more complex.
