Is the trunk made of aluminum as well? I'm asking cause I just noticed a dimple on my trunk It's on the top like a stone hit it or something. Not terribly big but annoying as hell. Probably less than 100 to get fixed by a body shop. I had an E46 wagon for 3 1/2 years and not so much as a dent on it and I have this car for about a month and already I get this.

I thought only the Hood and some front end chassis parts are made of Al...

Maybe for TiAg cars the trunk is made of Al.

Trunk, hood, fenders, and front frame support are Aluminum. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

the best way is to put a magnet inside the boot lid and test it.

You got it. The purpose is to improve the balance of weight from front to rear.

Isn't it the case that if it were purely a balance issue, then that could be achieved by any material, whether dense or less dense?

I agree
eg. for balance issue why not just thiken some metal at the front if the wight is too light at the front.

Something like that?

If you look carefully to the pictures, you can see the two dents at the right of each scratch

I can guarantee that the tailgate on the E61 is aluminium. Clearly visible, especially when a $?"!""%#@ scrapes the paint off with a key. At least it won't rust.
