I have noticed a lot of little scratches on the top of the bumper where it looks like the trunk lid makes contact when it is being closed...anyone else have this problem? Is there an adjustment problem? Is it Common?

Yes. I have noticed the same thing. Do you have the M trunk lid finisher on your car? There is actually something I have seen for this. Let me see if I can find it.

I'll have to check, but I don't think it is something that is happening with mine. I would imagine that the trunk latch can be adjusted by the dealer to alleviate this. I would think any damage should be corrected under warranty since I would expect this to be properly adjusted from the factory.

no damage to mine but it wouldn't surprise me with the amount of force it takes to close the damn boot, and I'm the type of person that won't touch the paint so i have to use the license plate.

You don't use one of the hand recesses underneath the trunklid to close? It's actually very easy to close. My old Jetta had the same recesses for the same method of closure.

You simply cup your hand and insert the fingers of that hand into one of the recesses, then pull the lid down towards the bumper of the car with a quick and deliberate pulling motion. Remove your hand from the path of the moving trunklid quickly after initiating the motion. The trunk should close solidly and securely.

I finally got off my ass and encoded this clip - been meaning to do so. Lomag, if this is against forum policy I apologize. Please remove if it is. This is from the DVD we all should have received anyway.

The codec is Xvid if anyone is missing the required playback decoder...

No Xvid support for OS X, is there?

If this is how to close the trunk then I'm guessing its the same as in the E34, E39 and E90.

Looks like an E90 in that picture above.. But still realoem has the part as a 545i...

Dont mind me.. just trying to be funny. hehe

Anyhow, i close it with the handles on the trunk lid trim on the inside.. but it requires a fair amount of force..
And not to mention sometimes it goes down, just enough to touch and to thunk abit, and springs back up.

I think the springs are too strong but maybe BMW wants to make it seem as the boot being able to open itself when you press the trunk release on the key.

Maybe an electronic open and close system ala the 7 series would be nice?

Heres wishing it'll show up in the next 5...
