I recently purchased a nicely used 2004 E60 525i. For the life of me i cant get the memory seats to work with the remote. It adjust when i press the memory buttons. but not with the keys. Is the seat supposed to readjust to the pre-programed position when they is pressed? I have another question where is the battery located? Also just one more question what are the pathway light. I able to set the time thru the i-drive but when i turn off the car i never see anything light up. Thanks in advance.

I'm in the UK so it might be different but..........

You have to set the seats to react to the key press in the iDrive.

i Menu > Vehicle Settings > Door Locks > Central Locking > then select your preference in the Last Seat Pos. Option. Either "Automatic Off", "After Unlocking" or "After Door Opens". This feature is specific to each key so if your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/dog has their own key and seat position then the seat will go into their preset position when they unlock the car using their key.

I think the pathway lights may be the equivalent of the Coming Home Lights here in the UK.

Once you turn the ignition off just pull the indicator/signal stalk towards you like you were flashing your high beams and the lights come on for the time you specified in the iDrive.

Hope this helps

IIRC, cars of the vintage of the OP, used to have to have this function associated with each key as part of CKM (Car Key Memory) by the dealer.

Another thought regarding the key memory...there's a small battery in the key fob which is supposed to be charged by the car whenever the fob is in the slot in the steering column. Perhaps in an older-vintage E60 the battery has been through so many discharge/charge cycles that it's not functioning as designed? I know the Comfort Access fobs have to have the battery changed periodically.
