My Ride: 2008 BMW 550i Sport
Carbon Black Metallic/Cream Beige
Manny tranny and other stuff
Recently gone, but never forgotten:
2005 Ford Mustang GT (hence the name)
Torch Red/Crimson
Manny tranny and every option available for that year
2002 Chrysler 300M Special
Brilliant Black/Light Taupe/Dark Slate
Autostick and goo-gobs of neat features that I will sorely miss

Has 555i really been selected as the name for the V8 equipped F10? If not, I doubt that'll be the name. BMW has a history of increasing the numbers then dropping back down and starting over. I haven't read anything that 555i will be the name. That being the case, if I had to guess, I'd wager that the new one will be 545i, 545Ti, 545ti(i), 545iT or 545it. 555i doesn't look or sound right. And with the engine being 4.4L, 545 only makes sense.

My prediction is that the TT V8 will still be branded as a 550i.

I agree. Look at the 335i, there is no "T or TT" in the badging. If the size of the new 5series will remain the same, I think BMW will keep it at 550i. But who knows right!

If they will add another letter I think it would be an 's'. Just like 320i / 320si, X5 3.0d / 3.0sd & etc.

I recall reading something (??) lately that said that starting soon (this year or 2009) for vehicles sold in the US and have a number as part of the name, that the number must accurately reflect the actual engine displacement. Does this ring any bells anywhere??
If true, the 555i name would not work in the US.

BMW already owns the US trademark registration for 555. It is no guarantee that they intend to use it with the F10, but they do intend to use it with something.

I believe that Mercedes can share the 550 because of the S/E designation before the number compared to BMW creating the MX5 which would be the exact same designation as the Mazda. If somebody said they had a S550 or E550, I would not think they had a BMW Super 5-series or an Excellent 5-series
