I am looking for a bicycle transport system. I picked up the BMW roof bars and swing arm bike racks but I am not happy with the bike racks. They do not lock to the car! They are also very clunky looking . I checked with Thule and they do not have a system for the 5 series listed. Yakima states that my car is "unYakable". I am not happy with putting a hitch on the car but would consider it as a last resort. What systems are people using?
I am looking for 1) high quality, 2) mountain and roadbike capable, lockable, and secure. I don't like the type where the front wheel is taken off because I often put a roof box on with extra gear and need the rack space.
Thank you in advance for your reply.

I also bought the BMW roof rack and bike holders (both road and mtn bike). I think it's a great system! I don't understand your concerns.
cheers

I bought the bike rack that lowers the bike to the ground. It does not lock to the bike or lock to the car. Someone can walk up to the car, turn a red knob and lift my bike and half the rack off the car. No security whatsoever! That is my issue.

BMW has OEM roof racks for the E61 as well.
Also differant bike carrier systems are availble.
