Default transmissions for 530i e60 2007

Mine has the ZF tranmission. Going to be replacing it and wondering what transmissions can go in this car. I preferably don't want another ZF. Couldn't find much info elsewhere.

Thanks guys

Why no ZF?

I've heard they are the most unreliable ones in my year and model. So I was hoping for M54 I believe is what others have been saying.

But I've searched online and I'm wondering if transmission from (ex. e90 or 335i) will fit in my car. Wondering which models I can use so I can widen my search

So you basing your opinion upon what you have heard from a forum or from people who probably abuse their cars, perhaps? The ZF is highly regarded and very reliable. Good luck .

you can have any transmission you want in your car, as long as the transmission you choose is ZF's 6HP19.

Seriously, youre stuck with the ZF. E90s use the same 6HP19. M54 is an engine, not a transmission.

I share your disdain for ZF automatics.

Good luck with the car.

I know that you can't rev a 4HP22 in neutral without blowing it. Seriously, just revving a car in neutral can blow out a gearbox. I know that the 5HP19 in the E46 is notorious for losing reverse gear for no apparent reason, resulting in a complete rebuild (note that the GM transmission in the E46 also can lose reverse gear, but the fix is a $25 solenoid). I know many people have lost a motor in their M3s because the location of 2nd and 4th gear gates in ZFs S5D310Z are like, right next to each other. I know that 6HP19 and 6HP26 have major problems with valve bodies and under supported input shafts resulting in complete transmission failure in cars with less than 100,000 miles.

Seriously, they suck IMO. But they're german, and that's why BMW buys them. just my opinion.

looks like i need a new tranny, boy this sucks. the mechanic said there were tons of metal shavings in my transmission and that it's shot. to add, he is a family mechanic so i'm pretty sure he aint lying to me but never can know for sure.

on the hunt for a 6HP19 out in So Cal,
