If I personally was in your situation, I'd try to get it repaired for 2k and drive it until its last breath. The car is only worth 8-9k fully functional and in good condition so a 7k repair is ridiculous. I'd rather be driving a car that looks like it's worth 30k (even though it's not now) and drives like it is, as opposed to a corolla or honda since they would be in the same price range.
