I've heard that there's an o-Ring between the valve body and rest of the transmission that should be replaced if you R&R the valve body. It's called an o-ring however the pic the indy showed me didn't look like a standard o-ring, more of a custom part. I'd suggest a look at realoem.com to make sure you have the part number for your car and have it in hand before you start the job. Failures of this o-ring/seal can cause a ton of problems, according to the indy I worked with.

It's not an o-ring.

There is one seal called the 'bridge seal' or 'adapter seal'. its basically two plastic squares with a squared rubber seal on each side. Yes, definitely replace it.

There are also four rubber tubes called "sealing sleeves". You want to replace those too if you have the valve body out.

Hope to have this thread and all pictures I took posted by this weekend. My car is an '04, so mechanically it's identical to yours. I'll PM you my phone number if you want, I can talk you through it if you run into any snags. Are you familiar with using INPA? You'll need it to monitor transmission temperature as well as resetting adaptations in the TCM portion of the Mechatronic.

No im not familiar with it. I do know I need to monitor the temps when you fill the trans back up. I was going to research to get some familiarization with it tomorrow.

Having a way to monitor temps is the biggie. I have heard of people using a simple automotive infrared gun to do it, so I'm sure there are other ways to do it without having access to a computer loaded with INPA and the rest of BMWs factory programs. If you're able to get the job done and need someone to reset adaptations let me know. I'm working out of an office near the casino and would be happy to do it for you if you're able to swing by. It takes all of 90 seconds to do with INPA.
