I'd say it's better left unsaid.

A fairly new car with a transmission replacement can be a double edged sword as a seller. Some people might think you beat the crap out of the car and what else might it need? On the other hand some might see it as something which will happen again and shy away from your car (and the 550 in general). I wouldn't bother mentioning it if I was selling the car. If someone came upon the record at the dealer you could explain then - but most will never know.

So to answer the question - I don't think it would really impact the cars resale negatively such as a car accident. Just don't use it as a selling point..

just document the diagnosis and repair...... as long as the buyer knows why it was replaced, and not left to wonder, it shouldnt deter anyone.

I think what the OP is concerned about is not the trans replacement per se, but about what the act implies. If you're buying a used 550 or an M5, a trans replacement may mean a lot of abuse by previous owner (I DO NOT know any forum members that would do that to their leased vehicle), potential future failure of other components, and therefore become leery about buying the car.
In all other scenarios, a replaced transmission would be a plus I guess.
i think the op's line of thinking is on target. if you were looking to buy a car and you knew the tranny was replaced, you wouldn't think twice? i would. i'm not sure i've ever heard a good news story where the tranny's been replaced and there's never another related issue. if someone has a story like that, please share!

for me personally, i'd have it replaced and unload, but that's me. best of luck to the op on whatever you decide.

An educated consumer might ask about the tranny slam issue. Your answer would be that it was addressed with a replacement. That's a plus.
