Default Transmission failure +

Oh fun. Driving down the highway near home and the transmission went into neutral and threw a transmission failure message. Just cruising casually at 110, no hard running prior to the highway portion of the drive.

Pulled over and re-started and then it said transmission failure, then switched to engine malfunction, reduced power. The half engine light was on in the center of the cluster. Limped home and after another restart no error messages on the iDrive screen.

A few days ago I was reversing down the driveway with a warm engine and the engine stalled with a slight thump. It's never done that before, and I didn't think anything about it at the time but may be related.

Car has 199,560km on the clock and I've run it 5 years without issue. I put JB4 on it 4 years ago and have been running map1 for most of the time.

As recently as yesterday it ran fine for a WOT runs to highway speed and beyond as normally driven. I've never had any odd behaviour from the transmission prior to now. As far as I know, it's on the original fluid.

I don't have a proper code tool and am looking at iCarly as an option right now. Ideas?

Step 1 is almost always pull codes. report back when you've been able to do that.

JB4 supposedly reads codes, and I have the USB connected. Any love there?

Checked codes at my indy today and I got 51A6 EGS: Engine signal. He couldn't talk to the DME with his scanner. Hmmmm.

Took it to another shop and he was able to read the DME as well as the EGS:

DME codes:

2DED - Power management, Current Monitor
2A94 - Crankshaft Sensor
3100 - Charging Pressure Control, Switch Off

EGS codes:

51A6 - EGS (Electronic Transmission Control): Engine Signal

I'm thinking if an intermittent CPS was thrown, that would glitch everything out, and it might explain why the engine stalled that one random time whilst I was reversing. I'm not in the habit of just throwing parts at cars, but the CPS might make sense to change for C$160.

With those codes I don't think your transmission is the problem.

Thanks, I don't think it's the trans either. Second tech cleared all codes. I will order the CPS and fit it, then drive it normally and see if anything crops up. I think Carly will be ordered too since it'll work for my X5 as well.

CPS replaced Thursday and several drives later it's working. I'm cautiously optimistic.
