My Ride: 2008 525i
![Default](https://5series.net/forums/images/icons/icon1.gif)
Hi guys! I'm new to the forum, Have read quite a bit for a while but just created the account.
Car is a 2008 525i with around 75k miles.
(Sorry if my particular issue has been addressed previously but I searched quite a bit and found nothing like it after changing the parts I did)
Had issues with the car for a while, local BMW quoted 7k for a new tranny... so I kept driving it until it got to the point it was too much trouble to use,
I've read hundred's of posts on different forums and then started changing parts to try to fix my issues.
Sometimes when I start the car it will not engage into D or R, but If I engage the emergency park release lever and leave it engaged or if I release it hard, it will engage the gear and the car will work properly on Drive with no issue, It will accelerate properly and drive with no issues. But when I try to get it into Park it will tell me that P position is damaged or when I try to get into reverse it will give me issues.
If i engage the emergency release and do a hard release of the lever, I can get it to go into reverse or Park again.
Things I already changed:
-remanufactured valve body
-replaced pan, filter, oil and seals (bridge and the other 5 seals)
-gear selector switch
-adaptations reset with inpa
Not sure if it's the issue I have, but I've read a thing or two about maybe a bent or broken emergency release? But I haven't found any DIY or tutorial of how to change or check this. If someone can tell me where to find a DIY for this or what else I should try to change I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Do you have a manual bowden cable from your gear selector down to the transmission or do you have the updated electronic type gear selector? I don't recall exactly when the changeover was in E60.

OK, you have the electronic selector. I think a few members have had problems with frayed wiring that leads up to the connector causing the types of problems you are having. Hopefully someone will chime in but if that were my car that's where I'd look next. good luck.

Okay so my gear selector wires were broken
I continually got transmission fault warnings
I cut the wires and removed all the old wires
I resoldered a section in of about 3 cm
Never had a problem since
Sorry I do t have a picture on my phone but I think I made a post about it
