Default Transmission issue

Hey guys
Today after driving my car hard for a while a transmission warning came up
Don't remember exactly what it said but something along the lines of a transmission fault
The speed may be affected
And do take it to bmw to have it check
As soon as I stop the car and turn it off start it again and the warning is gone as long as I drive normal it doesn't come back
When I start driving it hard again the warning comes back

The car is a 2004 530d any help would be appreciated

Step 1: have codes read, either by BMW or a BMW specialist. What you're likely going to see are 4F85, 4F83, 4F81, etc. These are all 'ratio monitoring' faults.

Step 2: IF you see what I think you're going to see, read through this:

https://5series.net/forums/diy-do-yo...thread-137584/

Step 3: contact ZF and tell them that their transmissions are big, expensive piles of junk.

How many miles are on the car?

Will the codes come up even while the warning isn't there?

Yes, fault codes will still be stored in EGS. BMW specific software will even show you engine and turbine speed, as well as the exact mileage when the fault occurred.

No, your transmission has likely NOT failed completely. However, if you continue to drive the car with this problem, it WILL fail completely.

If you do find any or all of those codes in stored in EGS, what's happening is that EGS is detecting slip in one or several clutch packs. automatic transmission clutch packs do NOT like to slip and will completely lunch themselves into oblivion if you don't address the problem you have, if you indeed have the problem I think you have. It is incredibly common in the ZF 6HPXX family of transmissions.

Get the car to someone ASAP so they can retrieve codes. Respond to this post and let us know what faults are stored.

Really not a good sign
I don't know anyone to take it to other than bmw so I'll have to do some research on where to go

Unfortunately, you're likely finding out why the previous owner got rid of the car.

Ok so I reset the transmission computer or so I think I have feels different and warning hasn't come up again after 200km of driving
While yesterday it came on twice in less than 30km so I'll wait a bit more and see what happens

If you have a problem, it'll come back.

By 'reset the transmission computer', I assume you mean resetting adaptations? the old hold the gas pedal down trick? That is highly unlikely to solve your problem long term. You need to read the faults in EGS and see what they are.

Seriously, you are really rolling the dice on this.
