Finally got my back on the road after 2 and a half years (don?t ask long story) took it for a quick blast down the m25 and it was working fine (had a bit of fun if you know what I mean ) on the way back home the car kind of started jerking and the rev's went up to 3,5k and then right down to nearly 0 then a message came up on the i drive "Transmission Faulty drive carefully go to your nearest BMW dealer" or something like that and shows a "red cog" when I saw that I pulled over and decided to switch the car off and back on again to see if the warning went away but then the car would not start!! Tried a couple of times and would not start so I left in for about 10mins and tried it again and then it started straight away and the red cog was gone no warning nothing??

what does this mean and is it a major problem?? Has this happed to anyone??should I be looking for a new gearbox

I have a 2003 530i auto btw

Thanks

As a matter of fact I had this error 2 weeks back
First there was aseal they said needed replacing under the gearbox when they did that a day or 2 later I got the maber cog
Transmission fault gears can be engaged without brake

Then on the first visit there was crack near where they repalced the seal
the error didnt go away sop after complaining they had another good look - basically gearbox oil was failling onto a electrical sleeve causing idrive msgs to appear once that was changed error message diappeared i got this fixed in Coventry BMW UK

Hey man

I had the same fault in Feb http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=...nsmission+fault and again just recently. I think its when I'm messing about with the gears and I make the car jump. Hard to describe.
Anyhow, Im having mine looked at this week as I've now got all sorts of issues and warnings coming up.

Maybe best to get it checked in case anything further happens.

Had a guy out from BMW Assist today to look at another problem, and he said the error message sometimes shows up intermittently when you need your gearbox oil flushing/changing. Its booked in for Weds, so i'll keep you updated anyhow.
