I have read a ton of threads on maintenance recommendations on this site(very useful!). I plan on changing my tranny fluid and differentials at 60k.
I would like to hear from people on their transfer case oil(AWD oil) longevitiy and maintenance schedules. The BMW book doesn't list it.
I would think 50-60k range would be ideal.
Look forward to hearing comments from this excellent group.
Mike

My driving is 80-90% highway without much braking or changes of speed. This is why I elected to go from the cut in half of 100k recommendation to 50k and make my change interval 60k for the diffs, xfer case and tranny(including pan&filter).
Would like to hear some input on other 530xi owners.
thanks,
Mike

I have 09 535xi Manual. I am planning to do the same. Currently at 12K .... Planning to do it around 50K or maybe even earlier.
There is a plastic board under the chassis which covers tranny. I am not sure we have drain plug for all of these three...
1. tranny
2. xfer case for AWD model
3. differential
I am pretty sure we don't have drain plug for differential. Not sure for the other two. We will need to either do "suck" or "open the case(pan)" to get these fluid out.
BMW decide not to offer drain plug since they define it is "lifetime fluid" and no service required to it.
My previous e39 was the first gen. for "lifetime fluid" thing. They still have drain plug which make life easier. I hope BMW won't seal the engine one day.
