I had '04 530i in for bat.cable recall. Dealer "discovered" trans. gasket leak. & Quoted big $$$ to fix.
Thanks to a kind gentelman on this site posting a list of service SIB's I found SIB 240205 about "Replace Mechatronic Adaptor"
Can someone please post the text of the SIB ?
Are there other SIB's pertaining to E60 trans. leaks ?

From this forum it seems the Trans. gasket leak is common. As BMW claims the trans. is "lifetime".
Would this failure be a factory defect ?

Great forum. Lots of info. to help each other out.

it's just a gasket replacement. you can go to an indi shop and have it done for like $200-$300 bucks or do it yourself. I just got back yesterday from my recall and they found 2 leaks and wanted $2300. I told them to shove it for some little rubber pieces.

What conserns me is that when there are 2 gasket leaks, mechatronic (above static fluid level) & pan gasket (below static
fluid level) is it trans. fluid being forced out due to foaming & fluid presure ?.

Is there a breather on trans.? If so, does it get restricted?

Replacing gaskets would be a temporary maintance type fix if it is a presure problem.
I have found it is usually helpful to fix the cause of the problem to avoid a repeat.

If it is realy a trans. "BMW LIFETIME FLUID" presure/foaming problem, causing 2 diffrent gasket leaks, then it is NOT LIFETIME !
BMW in order to maintain it's "Ultimate driving machine" image you would think would fix this on going defect on multiple E60 models & years no questions asked !

I would still like to find out what the SIB 240205 says.

UPDATE - Took under car pan off car. Looks like 2 seperate oil stains on pan. An old stain, has dirt & dried up. Newer stain, still looks fresh.
Neither stain made it to drain hole in pan & no stains on garage floor.
There was slight fluid along trans. pan gasket on one side & rear plus some staining on trans. pan.
Cleaned all fluid & stain from gasket & trans. pan.

Left under car pan off.
Drove car about 400 miles to ME. & back - Turnpike speed
Put white card board under car @ both ends of trip - no drip/stain.
Got under car, used white rag along gasket,no fluid. Dosen't look like any fluid leaked.
Car is shifting normal.

I will leave under car pan off for a while, park over white cardboard & inspect gasket once in a while during hot weather.
If no further leaks, put under car pan back on & check after a while. (if it then leaks with under car pan on I am thinking it must be trans. fluid temp./ presure related due to trapped heat.)

I am going to try & solve this & welcome any suggestions/ideas.
BMW owners should NOT be plaged with changing gaskets as a maintance item !
Great Forum !

THIS IS A BMW... YOU WILL ALWAYS FIND FLUID LEAKS! I don't care who you are. European cars are well known for this.
You did the right thing.
Me? I keep the under belly plastic panel off so I can catch leaks and fix if needed. Even if it's a small leak Don't worry you can just replenish fluid later. If you try to repalce a gasket you're going to drain about 4-5 liters out, replace a gasket and refill. @ $15 a liter and a $40 gasket...is is really worth it right now? I wouldn't worry about it.

I'd keep the plastic piece off if you live in a nice climate w/o snow. You get better airflow keeping things a bit cooler and you can spot leaks when they come.
