Trans Delay
I recently purchased an 06 CPO 550i for my wife. She went from a Lexus GS 430 to this car - two entirely different cars.
With the Lexus, when you step on the gas, the car would go in a linear fashion, as you stepped on the gas the car would proportionaly take off. Now, on the BMW, as you step on the gas the car barely moves, so you give it more gas and then the car really takes off. It's impossible to take off smoothly. I've also noticed this when you make a turn and you give it some gas as you come out of the apex of the turn, you give it gas and there seems to be a delay before anything happens, or if you give it more gas it downshifts and really takes off.
The Lexus was smooooth and the accelleration was very linerar. I've taken this car back to my dealership and they say the couldn't recreate the condition. So I took the service tech for a ride and he told me that that's just how BMW's are. If I want, I can put the shifter in sport mode and drive it that way. But if I leave it in sport mode, it downshifts as I slow down and that gets annoying. So I have to start out on sport mode then shift in to regular mode.
I've got a GMC 2500HD pick up that I had the same issues with until I got a custom tune for the engine and trans computers, I asked the BMW tech if there was an updated program or tune that could be downloaded to the car's computer, but he said that there were no fixes at this time.
Am I just being too sensitive or am I not the only one who has an issue with this?

Try using the transmission reset trick. You can use the search bar for more threads....
Basically you put the key in the ignition, push the start button without stepping on the brakes.
Hold down the gas pedal for 30 seconds and the transmission resets.
Start the car and the car will 're-learn' your driving style/habbits.
Hope this helps. good luck

+1 You are suffering from the adaptive transmission lag, the reset does the trick!!
I've sat with my foot down on the gas for over a minute and nothing.
I've tried to start with my foot on the gas before I push the start button and still nothing.
I've got the comfort access package, I haven't put my key in - would that make a difference?
I'll try it with the key in tonight when I get home to see if that does the trick.
Thanks for the replies.

I'm not sure I have EVER heard a sound when I reset my transmission, but the effect is still there!

I recall the throttle response on my old 545 being a bit frustrating in D mode. As a result I drove in DS full time. Gas mileage suffered but throttle response was much better. I sometimes suspect the car is programmed that way to satisfy MPG requirements...
