Tranny Reset

My Ride: 2006 550i - Silver-Grey - Sprint Booster
I've heard people speak about resetting their Trannys, but isn't that something the tranny does on its own based on driving habits, or is there actually something the driver, clicks, presses, etc.?????

My Ride: 2007 530i. Purchased 6/28/07. Titanium Silver Metallic, Black Dakota Leather, Dark Poplar Trim, Steptronic, Premium Package, Cold Weather Package, Bluetooth, Adaptive Control Xenons. 10/30/07 Added OEM 124s with 245/40/18 & 275/35/18 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires. I believe that the transmission is adaptive to your drive habbits/style and resetting it once in awhile does work.

Thanks - I did the procedure...
stick key in (even though I don't need to) pushed the starter button. And then held the gas pedal for 30 seconds. Didn't hear anything, but will see how it does.

is there a way to disable the adaptive tranny?? everytime i do the reset procedure, it's like a tuneup. it takes about a month when switching from 2nd to 3rd gear feels like there's a slip. then i do the reset again
