My Ride: '04 530i Mystic Blue, European Delivery, Steptronic, Prem Pkg, Cold Weather Pkg, Nav, Heads Up, Active Cruise, Rear Sunshade, Rear Side Airbags, Rear Seat Heating, Park Distance Control, Xenon, CPT9000 GSM phone, red rear reflectors, Sirius!!!!

When I update my communications connection, I now see that I can check the box "Traffic Info." I can also get to traffic Info under the Navigation menu, but it never shows any messages.

Could someone educate me on this function in the US (I am aware of the system functioning in Europe). Is there such a system in the U.S.?

As it is part of the communications menu, I assume the messages would be received via the cellular system common with BMW Assist...is that correct?

but over here in Europe the traffic infos are coming through the radio stations, it's called TMC.
Also BMW assist offers TMC infos, but AFAIK they are just getting updated when your nav is activated. I think I read somewhere, that the nav checks with BMW assist every 10 minutes if there is a traffic problem ahead of you. So, if I'm right, these are indeed coming through the BMW assist built in phone.
And the other ones, coming through the radio signal, are - AFAIK - not available in the US.
