Got the random orbital out last night. The scratches are limited to the clear coat. Most of them polished out or are very light. Still going to have the body shop hit them with the high speed orbital to see if he can knock them down completely.

It could have been much worse, you lucky to get off with just a few scratches.

I just noticed my mom's car has some black paint on her front bumper.

Here's the update. Body guy came over to my house Friday. Spent 45 minutes working on the car and it looks 100%. No sign it ever happend. Here's what he did. First, he used 1500 sandpaper on a rotary air sander and lightly sanded the wheel arch and the area on the door. When I say lightly, he simply grazed the surface. Took about 15 seconds to do this step for all the trouble areas. Very quick and light. He said he sanded it so he could visualize the peel and pinpoint the scratches in the clear.

Step two - he used a razor blade perpendicular to the paint surface to "shave" clear coat off over the scratches. Essentially taking microns of clear coat off each pass. Obviously the risk is you blow thru the clear coat, which would put you in the paint booth. Luckily the scratches weren't that deep and he knew what he was doing.

Step three - used a Makita high speed rotary polisher. First hit it with compound and then glaze. He then finished up with my random orbital using Griot's swirl remover polish. Whoel thing cost me $120.

Didn't get a chance to wash the car, so it looks like crap - compound sprayed on the windows and dripping down the rocker. Will wash, clay, polish and wax her before too long.

I got lucky.

Good news -- glad it all worked out for you...

I'll keep my eyes peeled for DrLev99's mom's car so I can get her plate!

Good luck with that Rudy, because if she's anything like her son, it's probably a new one every couple of months!!
