Purchased an e60 with new tires and rims and TPMS light on. Original owner doesn't know if they are completely gone. Is there a way to tell WITHOUT removing tire from rim if they are indeed there and possibly need reset?

is your stem valve the old rubber ones or a hard solid metal stem valve?

It's a sensor. It doesn't wear. What you need to do is go into your iDrive and reset the TPMS sensor AFTER you make sure there is enough tire pressure in the wheels.

I also recommend you crack open the user manual and read it (I usually do it on the throne). You'll learn a lot about your car.

Oh, and welcome to the community.

For the OP download a copy of the owner's manual at the information section of this forum. The pdf will be easier to search for the answers to newbee questions. If the replacement wheels have metal valve stems the TPMS are there. As Michael suggested the manual will instruct you how to reset them after verifying your tire inflation pressures are correct.

Thank you all for the welcome! They are metal stems. I wonder if this is from the original Beyern rim or if they are TPMS. The previous owner cannot recall if they took them off or not. The message states TPMS message and to take to BMW for them to check. I am not sure if this means they aren't there or if they need some sort of reprogramming. Thought there might be a way instead of having them removed from rim to visually check. Thanks again all!

Also don't have the owners manual. Anyone have the 2007 .pdf?

Found owners manual. It is the yellow warning lamp which flashes initially then stays on constant in yellow. So again not sure if they are in there or if they simply didn't put them back on.

If it's metal I venture to say they are in there, just not initialized. Try resetting it in the iDrive if not might have to goto a wheel shop. They don't need to take off the tire off they can deflate it and push the edge in to check.
