My Ride: 07 BMW 525i Premium Package, Xenon Lighting Package, manual Transmission. Titanium Grey, 20% Tint around the back, 70% V-Kool on front.
Planned mods: Style 71 wheels with Toyo Proxy 4 tires, Sachs suspension upgrade, upgraded stereo, and many more to come.
After a business trip in which my car was sitting undriven for a few weeks, my TPMS malfunction comes on.
Is it because the internal batteries of the sensors went bad? Could the batteries be replaced, or do you have to get new sensors?
Could it be a malfunction of the controller (TPMS receiver)? Can you pull off error codes specifically for the TPMS?
Hate to toss out $200 for new sensors and remount the wheels...
It's the original set of TPMS from my new car, which was picked up 5 years ago and have 90K miles on it...

check the tire pressure on all 4 tires. Very likely, one of the tire's pressure is low. After inflating all 4 tires to proper pressure, RESET the TPMS via iDrive, you will be all set.

No, it's not a warning saying I have a flat tire, but a total malfunction saying TPMS is not available. Usually that happens when you change out tires but took off the TPMS. But my sensors have always been there, so I am thinking the TPMS sensors battery is dead, or something wrong with the controller module...

chances you will have to replace the sensors since if the battery dies, you will have to replace the sensors because battery is built in. Please don't quote me on that though but I vaguely believe that's what I read about those sensors awhile back when I was debating to go with LCI or pre-lci model.
