My Ride: 520D 2006 - Media Package, M-tec Kit, Lighting package, extended lights, Leather seats, Auto High beam. Carbon Black, with black leather.
I'm getting my car chipped tomorrow, and i just thought to myself, i dont really know what torque and hp mean in real terms and how they differ.
Anyone feel like explaining it?

Here's an article you might find interesting, it's linked from the wikipedia entry discussing HP, I've seen it before, and it's a good summary.

They're really just different sides of the exact same coin as one is directly derived from the other: HP=Torque(ft-lb)*RPM/5252...
(Horse)Power is a measure of the rate of doing work (the amount of energy transferred by a force).
Torque is a turning moment. A moment is the magnitude of force applied to a rotational system at a distance from the axis of rotation.

Just because you can apply a fudge factor doesn't make them "the same coin".

Yes, it does. HP is directly calculated by reference to torque and rpm.

You can calculate age from radioactive half life but it doesn't make those concepts "related".
