I hit 161mph in my SMG 545i on the way to florida from NY on I-95. It displayed it on the HUD. The RPM was only at about 4,500 in 6th gear which means it probably would hit at lease 175 without a governor... just my 2cents. By the way, that drive was the best drive of my life.

Alpine545 you've been POW / MIA!

Damn... 161mph? You must've killed alot of bugs with your front bumper and mirrors on 95.

I dont think so because every car in US is supposed to have a 155 mph limit, right?

Bugs bugging you guys?

I've done about 120 easy, but i'm concerned about road debris from tractor trailers and people who can't keep themselves straight in the left lane (i.e. Belt Parkway/BQE) kicking up crap from the shoulder & striking my ride at high speeds. No the colgan bra probably wouldn't even help.

Jesus, I've seen dead dogs, hubcaps, bumpers, chicken cages, milk crates, etc. floatin' around out there.

161mph on the dash is about 155 in reality I woud say. somewhere I saw an article with the comparison of dash speen vs real spead by laser radar....
The higher the speed the beggier the difference, in very high speed it can be difference up to 10mph

No. That was simply a gentlemen's agreement between automakers. Wouldn't at all surprise me though to find out that the insurance companies might've given an ultimatum.

Vettes, Vipers, Porsches and quite a few other will go to terminal velocity.

if you have the head up display, it should tell you exactly how fast you are going.

Dammit....guess people like me will never be able to fully *discover* our top speed since we have no HUD...

Yeah my car does 155mph in 5th gear at 5K rpm so i guess there is still some more to it!!!
