I recently ruined my Dunlop RFTs. My 550 comes with Y speed rating. I'm planning on replacing only one tire. The replacement has a speed rating of W. Can this cause problem?

Y Speed rating is up to 186

W is up to 168 mph

Stick to Y rated.

It is not just about top speed but also the ability of the structure of the tyre to handle the forces of acceleration and braking the car develops.

Try the Tire Rack. You can order online, and they'll get the tire there in a day or two. They have the Ys... $299 for fronts, $339 for rear OEM Dunlops for your car. Likely where any tire shop will order them from and then mark it up.

Wow very informative link. Thanks for sharing.
I also knew that Y rating is the highest speed level, right? Allthough i can't find it in the table from that link...that table shows W as the highest (although i'm sure it's Y)

What does your label say on the inside of your drivers door? They may list W as the rating which means the minimum rating... Fitting higher ratings (Y) is fine...

If Y is listed then always stick to that minimum...

No matter what car you have, I think all 4 tyres must be the same make and same spec unless the the real 1s a wider. which some car are but still the same make
