i bought a set of tpm's from tirerack. they claim to be made for the m5 (i have oem m5 rims). ive had them 6 months and work great. now that the 32 deg weather is here i get a TPM external malfunction. anyone know about this? tire rack is looking into it and calling me back. this is why i never buy non-oem...

You sure it's a bad sensor? You sate the temp dropped to around freezing, If so the Tire pressure could have dipped enough to trip it.
Just a though... even N2 will lower a bit if you have a N2 fill over air.

Could be the receivers on the car too, or the TPSM controller in the back end, you check for water under your spare tire or Batt area.

Now wait, do you need to change TPMs every time you change a RFT??

no, but if you get a second set of wheels and tires you will new a second set of TPSM sensors if you don't want to have to have the tires removed off the original set of wheels just to get the sensors.
My tire guys would charge $30 to un mount then remount the tires ( full set not just one) vs the $2XX for the second set of sensors or like $180ish for the aftermarket ones. also less chance of Wheel and tire damage when mounting , and it happens even with the best of installers.
