I have BMW Style 124 Wheels purchased in 2006 for 2004 545. I am using them on my new 2008 550. Should I take my tire pressure monitor instruments and valves off of my 550 sport wheels or should I just this purchse these? If I should buy the assembly where should I get them? Thanks.

I just bought new (additional) sensors from the BMW dealer so it would be easy for me to do my winter/summer changeovers without the need for re-mounting and balancing things each time.

They're really not very expensive (I forget how much but I remember there was a thread about this a while ago) so in the long run, it's not only going to save you money but also reduce the wear and tear on your rims since very often the tire machine (and mechanic) will scratch the wheels when mounting the tires.

If you're buying a new wheel/tire package from a place like Tire Rack, they can sell you the sensors and have everything mounted and ready when they arrive...

Thanks Rudy.

I bought winter wheels, BMW Style 124 wheels, in 2006 for my 2004 545. My 545 had a TPM system that used the ABS sensors to measure rotational speed to identify a flat tire or tire loosing air. In 2006 BMW changed over a TPM sensor in each wheel that measured actual air pressure. My 2008 550 has this system. My Style 124 wheels may or may not work the TPM sensor for my 2008 550. I ordered the 2008 sensors from Tire Rack. The price is $50 each which half of what the BMW dealer would charge for the same parts. I will attempt to mount the sensors in my 2006 Style 124 Wheels and post back here the results.

shouldn't be too hard to get the new tpm's from tire rack on. A good tire shop should be able to handle it. Earlier this year I swapped my stock 124's for 166's (the e60 with these did not have tpm's/2005 545i)...I had the tire shop remove the TPM's from my 124's and put them on the 166's...no problems...I've read members purchasing the tire rack tpm's and reported no issues...GL

No problem -- you must've forgotten that I went through almost the same scenario when my 2004 lease ended and I began the lease on my 2008 car. I'm all too familar with BMW's change from the ABS sensor system to the transponder system...

Again, I don't remember the exact price but I'm pretty sure I only paid about $50 or so per sensor from my BMW dealer...

They're $200 with valves from Tirerack.

Correct Good DR!

BMWs best price (Garry or others) is about $60 higher than TireRack.

And for the shoppers, the TPMS are an in-wheel module + a separate valve/stem. Manufacturer recommends a valve rebuild kit (new gaskets? ? ) each time the TPMS is removed / reinstalled but I think that's overkill unless the tire shop screws up the gasket removing and reinstalling the valve.
