Our 530xi spent the night in the 40 degree fahrenheit garage last night, was then driven for a while, and left to sit for a couple of hours in the 10 degree cold. When the Missus next fired up the car and drove about a block, the TPM alerted to low pressure in one or more of the tires (I dunno...I haven't seen it yet). Dealer SA on 'phone said they'd had a lot of calls this morning with the same problem. Suggested resetting in I-Drive, then see if problem goes away. Missus says car drives fine, and the tires all look inflated to her.

Has this been a problem in the past? I did a search, but didn't find anything regarding this condition.

This seems odd. A difference of 30F shouldn't reduce the pressure so much that the TPM indicates low pressure. PV=nRT, as I recall.

Safe thing to do it check the pressure with a gauge. When was the last time you checked the pressure and what was the temp at that time? I just had to add air in both my cars to compensate for the cold weather. We have had a mild winter up until now.

Yup exactly what I did, couple weeks ago we hit single digit in the evening and iDrive started to beep on front-left being low and initially I thought the weather may cause it drop and about to just reset it from the console but on 2nd thought I pulled into a gas station and got my pressure gauge out and found low on all 4 corners w/ front-left being the lowest.

that just happened to me this week after not driving the car for a while.. well when i received the message i pulled over and looked.. all the tires were inflated, but not fully. so i pulled into a gas station and inflated the tires a little more, but not fully. then i reseted the FTM in the idrive. it resetted and was fine.

Thanks for all for the replies. I did check the tires w/gauge, and all were the same. I then reset the TPM, let the car go to sleep for a few hours, then started up again. TPM warning had disappeared. I was chatting w/another 2007 5-Series owner, and the same thing happened to him with the recent plunge in temperature in the Boston area.

It use to happen all the time with my car. It seemed to be a seasonal thing going from Fall to Winter and Winter to Spring. My dealer thinks it was a matter of the sensors being too sensitive. They have since updated the software & so far no problems.
