I did consult my manuel, door jam, and even spoke with BMWNA a few months back. They didn't have a straight answer for me, and I settled on 30F/35R (I have a 545 w/ sport). They the shop forman said that was low and did tell me about some cases of premature tread wear on the inside of tires...Now I'm at 35F/38R-too soon to give my input on ride quality, performance, and milage...

But my door sticker says:? 38 Front? 44 Rear

Sorry about the format here, but it's not WYSIWG so I can't get it all to line up.

That was what the 2005 545s with Dunlops came out with. This is considerably higher than what was on my 2004 door post. I switched to 38/44 and still have a very quiet set of Dunlop RF tires.

Serves me right for reading the manual! I have 32psi all around - I guess I need more air.

Thanks for the tip.

My sticker also says 36F/44R which I've been using with no problems for 6,000 miles now, although I do lose 2 - 3 lbs each month when I check, which is higher than I've experienced with other cars.

I went two or three months wo checking this time. I also had lost 2-3 pounds all around. FTM never peeped. Have not initialized FTM within the 400+ miles since I added the air. Still no peep from FTM. Now with a 6# differential between front and back, I sort of expected the OBC to complain somehow. I'll try to remember to initialize again this afternoon. Interesting, huh?

Do you feel that you have to initalize the FTM after you go back up to 36 and 44 psi after only losing 2-3 pounds??
cheers

the adding 6 psi w/o resetting the ftm does seem strange...i once had the ftm go off (04 530 w/o run flat tires) and SA said it had been overfilled and goes off when the pressure changes 4psi either direction...

thanks,
edl

I think that if you want to maintain the highest integrity of the FTM, it would be prudent to initialize FTM after any change.
