Thumbs up

Am I right in saying that if you have a completely standard e60 (specifically a MY2006 535d M Sport) that there is no way to pass long items from the boot to the front seat? The only way this would be possible is if the car had an optional extra for through loading bay or split rear seats?

TIA

Hi, yes they should fold on standard. Optional extra is ski bag - load through.

Option of through load system includes ski bag and folding rear seats. Otherwise std UK model doesn't have folding rear seats. Very useful optio I've found.

Ok the last two posts contradict each other for whether the back seats fold on a standard spec e60. Is this because this changed? What year did it change? Has one of the posters made a slight mistake? Thanks.

I don't think they fold as I'm pretty sure mine don't

In the standard seats on the EU spec cars the back is completely fixed, none of the seats can fold down. Infact the boot in this case becomes completely sealed and the back of the seats are one metal sheet. You get the opening, ski bag and the fold down seats only with the Through Load option. I agree its one of the more useful options that if you dont take you will probably have an incident one day where you will kick yourself for not getting it - and I'm not even talking about people who thought they should have taken this just to be able to stick a big subwoofer into the ski hatch!

IMHO it should have been standard and not an option.

I have it now on my e60 ...i made the mistake on my old e46 where i didn't opt for through load option...i always had a tough time arranging the boot to make my family's stuff fit into the boot...can you imagine that situation on the e46 where the capacity was considered small?

but, to tell you the truth, i don't think you'll be facing this problem (like on my old e46) because the capacity of the e60's boot is considered spacious...unless you plan to load ski bags or something which i don't do at all in my country.

+1 Bruce. This is an option that should be standard. Some of the BMW "options" are ridiculous and a bit insulting. Like the compass on the rearview mirror. Come on, my "bottom of the line" '03 Suburban had this and the outside temp gauge standard. Nickel and diming in the name of "exclusivity" is the BMW mantra these days. If not for the fact that I'm in love with the brand and have been a bimmer owner of one type or another for nearly 20 years, I'd be tempted to take my business elsewhere. I must say it has gotten worse over the years especially for us-spec bimmers...
