So I recently purchased a used 2005 545i that hasn't been running for a long while maybe 6months to a year, engine turned on fine for a while and things were pretty normal.
All of a sudden when i start the engine again the following day the rpm gauge would revive up on it's on, up and down, up and down, up and down. I then turned off the engine. Then the next following day i would try and start engine, I would put the key in and the engine would just churn but not start. When the key is left at the second on position, I could hear a constant clicking noise. I took off the air filter and MAF assemble and discovered that it was the throttle body flap, flapping open and closing on it's own when the key is on the second position. I had someone bring in a ob2 that could read BMW system and tried to reset the computer. It was assumed that it could need a computer reset to reset the throttle body controller. Turns out that didn't help. So do you guys thing it could be a Throttle body issue preventing the car from starting? I also tried leaving the throttle body in the open position to see if it at lease would start. Also another thing is I unplugged the wire to the Throttle body and heard another clicking noise, very very faint, as if it was located behind the engine between the dash and the engine. The guy who brought in the system to read the car had gotten an error code but then proceeded to reset the system. afterward non of the error code came up again. I really appreciated anyone who can help me out. |
what was the error code?
|
+1. Do the throttle reset/adaption clearing procedure.

how do i reset the throttle reset/adaption procedure? |
I tried doing the reset/adapation procedure by pressing the gas pedel for 30 seconds with the key set on the second click. that didnt do anything.
I tried using a regular OBII and the following codes came up. P1631 P0120 P0123 P0222 P1720 Seems like it could be the throttle body. Does anyone know if the BMW 545i has a Throttle position sensor or is it built into the throttle body? |
so you have a no start currently?
Have you tried another key? |
