I've been a lurker on here for a while but now I need some help. My wife's 525xi is giving me a series of 3 short tones and then one long tone from the iDrive system. I don't see any indicators on anywhere and it seems to happen at random times. Any ideas on this one?

just read a thread about this. It is the hourly chime, though there is an argument about whether it happens on the hour, a minute before, or a few seconds before. You can turn it off through the idrive.

Thanks guys! It drive me nuts! I'll have to shut it off. I must have turned it on by accident while I was in one of the menus.

I just floor it when it happens on mine. Its just telling your clear for take off... :cool:

30 seconds before the next hour. BMW has had this option for a long time.

It's more like 4 or 5 seconds before the hour... ;)
