Hi,

I had a problem with the SAT NAV in my BMW 530D 2004 (Business edition SAT NAV). When I bought it the guy I got it off said that it needed a software upgrade to read the newer discs and the old version disc (2004-2 DVD) that it is compatible with has got scratched.

I verified this with BMW and they seemed to agree.

I got the software updated to E060-08-03-515 .... apparently the latest, but the SAT NAV is still not able to read the disc, says "Media unrecognised". BMW now want to charge me ?2200 to sort out the problem.

Had a look in the "Secret Menu" and it shows me version I-06-03-510_051122.

IS THIS THE LATEST VERSION OR IS IT AN OLD VERSION AND BMW ARE SCREWING ME ???

Also, Has anyone ... please got a BMW Business 2004-2 DVD (or possibly 2005) that I can download / borrow / Anything in order for me to see if it is a software problem and not a hardware issue.

PLEASE HELP !!!

This seems to be either version 24.02 or v21.0 .........

Is there any reason for BMW Not to update this ???

Please BMW 2004 Business SAT NAV DVD would help me clear up this problem.

Sorry I don't have any of the info you need but regardless you need a second opinion from another dealer...

You have to book the car in two weeks in advance and leave the car with the dealer to get anything done. Just need to know if that Version number in the hidden menu means its an old version , then I can take on the dealer and get him to sort it out tomorrow. Also a BMW 2004 DVD Disc would be useful to prove the theory. Someone must have it............

Hi,

I?m sorry that you are having these problems. I had similar problem, and the reason was defective DVD unit. To my knowledge you should be able to use newer navi discs without any software (Progman) update. I had previously Progman v.19 software (original, no updates) and I could use 2007-1 business navi disc without any problems. After a while something in my DVD reader went bad, and I got "Media unrecognized" messages with navi DVD, CD audio and MP3 discs. I had to change the DVD reader to make it work again.

Can you play audio CDs or MP3s in same slot ?

I think your dealer is winding you up..

'Media unrecognized' (probably after a while of trying to spin the disk) suggests hardware failure, more specifically, a defective player. With software incompatibility issues, one would expect freezes, but disks would be recognised.

I wouldn't be surprised if BMW uses the inner works of a normal DVD player, which doesn't cost you more than $50-100. If you can figure out how to open the unit (perhaps anyone here can give you info), you may be able to swap it for a new one.

In any case a base figure of UKP2200 is pretty outrageous for diagnosing and repairing a DVD unit.

I'm able to play MP3's and CD's in the same drive (Business SAT NAV only has one slot). It just seems like such a chore trying to get BMW to do something or even give a straight answer. I tried getting the sales guy to confirm the software version, but he just didn't answer the question.

This problem has probabely got a simple solution, but all BMW want to do is swap the unit and screw me for ?2200. Already spent enough on the car / Starter motor / Glow plugs / Parking sensors and Software update.

FED UP !
