At the time when I have my E39, they have the 3 years all inclusive maintenance program. Now I only have 1 year all inclusive with the E60 so I think in HK they are trying to get rid of it.

My thinking is that BMW did this for a couple reasons. Certainly, one is other manufacturers were doing it. I also think they realized that there is no better way to get quality up and compete with the quality driven Japanese than included maintenance. This way the cars always come back to the dealer and the dealer can feed the problem area data back to the factory and the factory can design a better part/car next time around.....
The free maintenance program was implemented by BMW to deal with lost sales associated with the expensive maintenance/repair costs of BMW ownership. At one time, BMW stood for Break My Wallet!

Part of the reason I bought e60 over MB E-class is they drop their maintenance program.

I do not think this will happen by BMW even if we have small creaks the client is important but of course sometimes we also have to be aware.

BMW Service is free and keep that way

BMW won't drop the free maintenance plan in North America. It's too big of a cash cow for the company and a great marketing gimmick.

4yrs/50k?

C'mon, in that period of time you get what? Maybe 2 oil changes, some wiper blades, a brake flush (maybe), brake pads (maybe) and a nice visit or two to the dealership to tickle your fancy with all the new makes and models that have come out since last you bought your (now very old) car.

Congrats on the great choice and lucky you, the E M-B is a lemon.

Sometimes the buying decision can be effectived of some nonsence matter.

This time you did right!

The safty of buying an expensive comsumer product is essential but you need
to get (have) a thrust in your product and dealer.

I hope BMW does not stop the free maintenance program.

If they stop it, it will have nothing to do with reliability as the included services are not reliability-related (oil changes, brake pads, wipers), but normal wear and tear items.

If I did not get this extra value over 3 years (I'm guessing $1,000-1,500), the $ amount is not enough for me to consider a MB, Audi etc. a better value given I am blowing $65K anyway. We can all agree that at this price level, $1500 will not make the vast majority of us switch brands as the BMW has very distinct styling/handling differences from its competition.

Just my $0.02
