My idrive hesitates some times, is ther a way to make it quick. Also, where can I get a 2008 DVD for a decent price?

Doesn't seem like there is much we can do.

Updated map DVDs can be ordered from Navteq

You might also try Gary from Newport BMW.

The funny thing is that the original iDrive (on the 7) was based on the Windows CE "platform" (if you can call it that).... I believe at that time Windows CE was actually based on Windows 98

The kernel is different to windows 98 but the idea was if you could program for windows 98 you could develop for the CE platform

This is an interesting document, that implies the latest update based on 3rd gen should be faster.

I am having this done as part of ipod fit next week so will see if it makes any difference on my 2005.

Cheers

Your car wont be third generation iDrive with just an update. It has different hardware too I believe(as fitted to LCI cars).

I just had mine updated and although there are 'improvements' to the interface it's no faster and I'd say it's far from 3rd generation!

I picked up a new 2008 535 just two weeks ago and it came with a 2007 produced DVD for Nav. Should my dealer have given me a 2008 DVD? He said he gave me "what BMW gave us".

Thanks.
