Thumbs up

Dear 5 series Forum members,

How a difficult is it to remove a 2004 530i air filter box?

Is there instructions here at the forum what's all involved, and the steps how to remove it by a BMW owner, or should it be done by an BMW mechanic?

Thanks in advance!!

Very easy. There should be a DIY here. I think I've seen one in the past. I'll give you a DIY verbally tho....

Open the hood.
Looks for the MAFS. Unclip the sensor's cabling.
Unscrew the metal retaining band until it's loose.
Now, look for the two bolts that hold the airbox down and unscrew those.
You should now be able to pull the airbox out of its resting place and also away from its main intake hose.

Now that you've read this, determine what size starbits you'll need because I dont remember off hand. And decide what to do with the MAFS because it's attached to your airbox. There will be two screws holding it in. obviously you need that part if you're putting on a non-OEM or modified box....so you'll need to figure out where it fits in the equation.

Good luck.
