I recently bought a 535xi e61 non sport package. I am in the process of finding new wheels. Most of the wheels that i have seen pics of are on e60/61 w/ sport package. I was wondering if the sport package has a different suspension than the non sport? Does it has different springs, shocks, is it lower than than mine? When i look at the options at bmwusa.com it seems that the sport package is merely different wheels, steering wheel, etc. Any heads up would be appreciated

thx

You indicate that you own an XI model, which forces you to use a 43 offset. The 2wd 5 series rims won't work. I'm in the same boat and are looking for 18 or 19 inch rims, but finding XI 18 inch factoy sport rims is like finding a needle in a haystack. Chris

To answer your question: Yes the Sport Pkg has a different (lower) suspension than non-Sport cars. I think it is about .7 inches lower.

You don't get the Sport Suspension with the XI. I had the sport pack on it, with 18" wheels, shadowline trim, sport seats and sport steering wheel, but it didn't matter. It's all about the sports suspension, which I had on my E39. It's one of the main reasons I dumped my XI 2 years ago.

Oh, and I changed out the suspension on my XI and it still wasn't good enough.

"Sport" on an XI wagon is black "shadowline" trim and better seats - pretty much nothing to do with sport unfortunately. I'm in the process of upgrading my wheels as well. Stick with 18" - I think the 19"s look a bit goofy with the extra tall wagon height and Conti ExtremeContact DWS 245/40/18 tires are a price steal. Rims with offsets from 35 to 43 will work fine, though I'm trying to stick near 40 so that chains won't be an issue on the fender if I ever need them. I think I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on Platinum Apex 200 Hyper Black - cheap, stylish, 40 offset and come in black, hyperblack / silver and chrome (I need to verify that they will accept BMW TPMS). MRR GT1s are also beautiful, but 50% more costly. Beyern mesh has a cleaner fit for BMW, but the arms are flat - not nicely sculpted like MRR

My 2008 535xi has the BMW 124 18" wheels, they take 245/40-18 tires in the front and 275/35-18 in the rear.

I see "124" sets for sale on Ebay quite often.
