How can one tell the difference between the 3 stock models (525, 530, 545) aside from the badge and looking under the hood, of course? Are they all identical from the outside?

I think this has been covered in another thread, but in additon to the wheels, the grill is different on the 545, as is the diameter of the exhaust pipes.

I notice the difference.

It seems that every time I pass another E60 on the road, they are always a 530 or 525.

I just smile and hit the gas... leaving them in my dust, staring at my 545 emblem.

Grill is the same size, but the 545 has chromed vertical vanes, while the others are just blacked out.

Steering wheel on 545's had Ruthenium trim, now, since March, all E60's have it.

Look at how confident the individual drives the car - if he/she looks relaxed and happy, it is surely a 545i

BAH.. Im just as happy as you buddy..with my 525 but I also have the luxury of having a 745Li and a 3 series as well..so im happy alright ...and eating the 545 in the dust? well im not gonna deny that the engine is faster.. but the driver have a HUGE part in it.. on a highway doin anyhting faster then 60mph anyhting goes..i've beatin 545's be4 but I obviously wouldn't try to take one off the line thats jsut carzyyy
