My Telescopic Steering stopped working on my 07 525i. Of course my warranty is up and I wanted to soloict for solutions prior to taking it to the dealer. Any thoughts on potential cause for this problem?

Any symptoms before it stopped working? Grinding noises, etc ? ? It could be something simple like a switch or wiring harness issue? I'd investigate for any wiring nearby that could have been pulled or worn through. If you're not mechanically / electrically inclined, a BMW trained independent mechanic might be a less costly alternative to a dealer.

In all likelyhood the motor is broken. Find an independant BMW mechanic to fix it. It should be a couple of hundred dollars for the motor and the install. Check realoem.com for the part.
Another alternative is to ask the dealer for a good faith repair based on the fact that the car is an 07. It can't be out of warranty a long time.
Good luck.
