Is this TCU to fix the Static issue? To be honest I am not sure that the TCU is the problem, its an expensive piece to fix to find out that the static is still there, the dealers don't care because if it doesnt fix the problem they still get paid.
Do you have the basic audio or Hi-Fi. the reason I ask is that if you have the basic audio system the audio goes from the radio to the amplifier in the back with regular wires. On the Hi-Fi version the audio is transmitted on the MOST or fiber optic bus which runs through the TCU.
The TCU is in the trunk on the drivers side attached to the wheel well area, its an easy replacement, you can find a TCU on ebay sometimes for about $300, I am not sure how much they are new. A lot of people switch these out on the older e60's since they want to get the bluetooth.
After you replace the TCU I believe you will have to get the car updated or coded because the TCU has to be updated to the rest of the car so am not sure if it is plug and play.

It sure does seem like Xman has acquired your search skills and is following in your footsteps of providing helpful answers -- hence the new "Gene".

The car is Hi Fi (standard issue, not an option).
Hmm....so how do I know which TCU to get from ebay? And it still needs to get replaced and reprogrammed from the dealer once I get it, so is it worth the risk of getting something defective off ebay?
What if I unplug the TCU?
