Pretty excited to head out. I'm taking my 7 year old son from Baltimore to Ponte Vedra Florida to visit my mom for the week. It is the first long trip in the car(past 3 hours). I am a little concerned about the seats as they can get uncomfortable at about 3 hours. I have the sports seats and they dont have a lumbar support. Just recovering from back surgery from January has me a little concerned.

Question: Should I leave Sunday afternoon and drive through the night or leave early Monday morning? Opinions welcome!

Just bought a new rear wheel(replaced cracked one)from Get BMW Parts.com, I went there to pick it up. Good experience.

I will try to report MPG and avg MPH. Trip should take between 10-12 hours.

Have a good week everyone!

Thanks Mel, I think your right! It could go horrible if he does not sleep. Plus I will feel pretty tired after being all Red-Bulled up to make it.

Are you heading to the Spring Drive in a couple of weeks?

I love road trips in the e60. Took my first mini, mini road trip in the e60 last weekend, just over a 1hr drive to spend the weekend at a family vacation home in the mountains. Yea, yea, I know you Californians are saying...wtf, that's not a road trip, that's my daily commute! But, my commute's just 7min.

Load up on some mp3's, snacks and have a safe and enjoyable ride!

*normally, I wouldn't eat in my car at all, but this is not a normal drive

Have fun, Steve and be safe. I hope you're still going to Bear Mountain meet.

By the way, watch out for the cops. They're out to raise revenue for the local government these days

I agree with Mel, leave early morning. Some people love night driving, but not I... Be safe

ok early morning it is! I'm contemplating taking an Escort as I tend to depend on them too much! ?Plus they are illegal in VA.

One more vote for leaving on Monday morning. driving throught the night sucks.

as for seat comfort...make little adjustments to tilt, height, angle, etc. every 15 min or so while you are driving. this will keep you back muscles moving during the drive...less likely to seize up from lack of movement.

enjoy the drive!

I lived in the DC area for 7 years and have done tons of drives to Florida as that's where my mother lives. I would leave at about 5-6 am so that just about all of the driving was in daylight. I would not drive through the night. Less safe and it's not so hard to fall asleep at the wheel.

I had major back surgery myself last May and I find my 550's seats to be a dream. But I've got the comfort seats. Stop as much as you need to give that back a rest.

Have fun with the little one on your road trip. My 11 year old loves the long drives himself.
