Thanks for all the help guys!
Im located in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Im in love with my e60 and will be around for a long while.
I currently have wheels on their way. I want to smoke the tails and upgrade the front lights to super white angel eyes!
So if i was to get them painted what would you recommend?
1. Buy the paint and take it to a body shop and show them what i want. Lincoln isnt very big into modding cars and doing work like this.
2. Mail my lights away to that guy in texas who did it for 40 dollars and let him do it and mail them back?
3. Buy the paint and try to do it myself? It cant really be that hard can it?

I used this on a previous car. Just do one coat at a time, let it dry COMPLETELY, then test. Keep applying coats until you reach the desired level of darkness.
WARNING - I did 5 coats on my old car, and got HELL from the cops. Seriously. If I was EVER to do it again, I'd do like 1, maybe 2 coats.
After you reach the desired level of darkness, just spray one or two coats of clear on.
BTW - the stuff comes off REAL easily with lacquer thinner. That's what I had to use when I got tired of the tickets.
Welcome, and best of luck!

I would tint if i were going to do it... might want to ask some local tint shops if they are willing to take this project on... worst case scenario they peel the tint off if they cant do it and they dont charge you...

If you tint the outside wont it be pretty easy for it to get scrapped off?

I had them done by a guy locally in SA for $40, he basically painted the tail lights. There is also a tint you can buy for tint depending on how dark.
Yes they tint on the outside. Many others have done it and I haven't read about any problems with them been scraped or peeled off.

First, to the forum and congrats on your car! Second, post some pics of your new ride.
As for your tail lights, I would go with tint. I ordered some from e-bay for ~$20 and did it myself. I used a hair drier for heat to stretch it around the "bump" in the tail light. It holds up well and is not permanent. I took mine off becuase I used to have black and silver wheels and it looked great with them but I switched back to the OEM wheels for winter and summer and I think the regular tails looked better on my car with the OEM wheels.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

Thanks for all the help guys!
I got in touch with an old friend from highschool who worked at a tint shop. He is going to charge me for the tint (his cost) and do the labor for free!!
hope it all turns out good.
kudos to the help and ideas!
almost forgot pics will be up tomorrow.

so when they do something like this with tint, they just put the tint on the outside of the light? Theres no way to get tint inside that housing is there?

no, it would be on the outside. i dont think it would get scratched off easily. This isnt a new idea. I would be cautious while washing them, thats all...
