System Initialization

My Ride: 2005 525i - mo mods...just got it

In manual it says that after a power loss (say, battery replacement or accessory addition):

The system must be initialized. BMW recommends having this work done by your BMW center.

Does anyone know how to re-initialize the system? Or it must be done by the dealer? Cant imagine that battery change cannot be done 'at home'?

I consider myself a purist and intend to keep my car absolutely stock and shiny. 2008 328I Convertible, Sapphire black on beige interior. Premium package, NAV, iPod adapter. Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.
