I cruised up from St. Louis to Dixon, IL this weekend and got 29.6 MPG (calced by filling the tank) out of the 525I. The car said 31.1 on the trip screen. Either way I was quite impressed, as I still had half a tank left once I got there. We usually take my wifes suburban on long trips, which gets 18mpg on the highway.

Isn't it nice? People always are surprised when I tell them. I went from St. Louis to Springfield (MO) over Memorial Day and the trip computer said 31.4. I didn't calculate it at the pump, but have in the past and find it to be pretty close. And that's with my wider 18s (245/275). When I first bought my car it had standard 138s (17" 225s)and driving back from Chicago the computer said 33.6! Around town is another story for me though. 21 or 22 tops!

With highway drives, I think BMW gives pretty good mileage. BMW started advertising their cars to 25MPG and it's pretty true if you drive in highways a lot. Also, it seems like when you drive around 80mph, the mileage goes up a bit as well. Not to mention the smooth ride unlike many other cars going at even 60mph which feels light and cheap.
