anyone had this issue with the sunroof shade not opening?
the sunroof opens and closes. the shade only opens when you pull it back manually.

I think it's a small clip in the back of the sunroof that brings the shade with it...this piece might be broken but I have never seen such thing...I will investigate my e60 and come back at you.

Don't believe it is supposed to shut with the sunroof. It is to only slide all of the way back when the sunroof opens or slide back a little when sunroof is in vent position.

i'm sure it's something like that. when i open the air vent feature, the shade doesn't move at all automatically.
i don't see any broken pieces anywhere.
it looks like the headliner has to be removed in order to fix this.

I've had the same issue intermittenly. Mine worked perfectly (meaning it would open the shade with the glass each time) when I got the car, until it was slammed shut one time (not by me!) and the shade was forced further forward than it would normally allow. After that, the shade wouldn't catch and open when I hit the sunroof open button.
I looked it over and nothing was broken. I experiemented with it, and tried different sequences/adjustments/etc.
I figured out that the shade has to be pushed forward (closed) until the front endge of the plastic shade handle touches the sunroof opening -- and no more. So now, when I close the shade manually after closing the sunroof, if I push the shade closed as far foward as it will go, it will not catch the shade next time I open the sunroof. I have to stop with about a 1/2" of forward travel left.
I'm sure the root issues is that something is actually bent somewhere up in there, but I couldn't tell by sight, had no other E60 to compare to, and tearing into the sunroof assembly seemed like a PITA.
